Course Overview

The Vietnam Culture & History Programme is a 14-day immersive journey designed to introduce students to the country’s rich historical tapestry and cultural heritage. Travelling through Hanoi, Halong, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue, participants explore UNESCO sites, ancient towns, and rural villages while attending cultural lectures and workshops at British University Vietnam (BUV) and FPT University. The programme blends academic learning with hands-on cultural activities, historical site tours, community interactions, and local experiences, giving students a holistic and authentic understanding of Vietnam’s identity.

What You Will Learn

This programme helps you explore Vietnam’s rich history and cultural heritage through immersive visits to UNESCO sites, ancient towns, and traditional villages. You will learn about key historical periods, cultural traditions, and the significance of heritage preservation. Hands-on workshops, university lectures, and meaningful interactions with local communities will strengthen your cultural understanding, observational skills, and global perspective—enabling you to appreciate the depth and diversity of Vietnam’s cultural identity.

Learning Objectives

This programme aims to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of Vietnam’s past and its influence on the nation today. Through guided tours, workshops, and community engagement, students learn about key dynasties, traditional customs, archaeological landmarks, and cultural evolution. The objective is to deepen their appreciation for heritage conservation, broaden their global perspective, and cultivate empathy by experiencing diverse lifestyles across both urban and rural settings. Students also strengthen their cultural awareness by interacting with locals and participating in traditional craft activities.

Key Concepts

Students examine significant historical and cultural themes such as imperial Vietnam, ancient capitals, traditional architecture, and multicultural influences from China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The programme also introduces concepts related to heritage preservation, cultural anthropology, and the importance of safeguarding intangible traditions. By observing daily life in villages and historic towns, students explore how culture, history, and community values shape modern Vietnam.

Activities

The programme features a comprehensive range of cultural and historical activities, including classroom learning at BUV and FPT University, guided heritage tours, and visits to iconic locations like Duong Lam Village, Ninh Binh’s Trang An, Hoi An Ancient Town, and the Imperial City of Hue. Students take part in hands-on workshops such as lantern-making, craft village visits, and riverboat rides that bring history to life. They also experience rural culture through farm visits, cycling, and interactions with villagers, allowing them to observe traditional lifestyles and cultural continuity firsthand.

Outcome

Upon completing the programme, students gain a deep appreciation for Vietnam’s heritage and cultural diversity. They develop stronger intercultural communication skills, historical awareness, and an enriched understanding of global heritage. The immersive activities help them strengthen their observation and critical thinking skills, while hands-on experiences leave lasting impressions that inspire curiosity and respect for other cultures. Students walk away with meaningful memories and a broadened worldview that supports their growth as global citizens.

Certificates, Recommendation

Upon completing the programme, students receive a certificate of participation, a detailed education report highlighting their learning progress and achievements, and a sample recommendation letter. These documents recognize their skills, growth, and engagement, providing valuable records for future academic or professional pursuits.
